Indonesia’s first nationally funded legal aid system
AIPJ is playing a key role in the implementation of Indonesia’s first nationally funded legal aid system. Launched at the Presidential Palace by President Yudhoyono on July 2013, 310 organisations have been specially accredited to deliver this new service to poor Indonesians.
Working closely with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, AIPJ is assisting with the development of systems and procedures for administering the funds and is supporting the complex accreditation process. This involves visits to over 375 organisations to test their eligibility.
The next phase of the system roll-out is to train lawyers able to deliver the legal assistance and raise community awareness to stimulate demand for this new service.
